Backlighting in a room has a large ambient component, whereas a spotlight outdoors would have very little ambinet component value. Use : GLfloat light_ambient[] = {R, G, B, A}; glLightfv(GL_LIGHT0, GL_AMBIENT, light_ambient); to set the ambient lighting for the scene.
